Playing without three starters and looking to put a 5-game slide behind them, the Christian County girls’ basketball team fell into an early hole and couldn’t climb out in a 66-50 loss at Warren Central on Tuesday night.

Without the services of three of their top-7 scorers in Trinity McGee, Amari Brown, and Mikayah Killebrew, the Lady Colonels slip to 5-8 overall with a matchup with Central Hardin in the Cocoa Collier Classic at Russellville coming up on Saturday.

The Lady Bruins took control from the start behind 12 points from Saniyah Shelton and led 21-13 after the first quarter.

Anaysia Bagwell scored 7 points in the second quarter for the Lady Colonels, but Kaylyn Keener put up 7 for the Lady Dragons and they took a 37-22 advantage into the halftime break.

Christian County struggled to put points on the board in the third quarter and was outscored 13-7.  Shelton and Keener combined for 12 points to lead Warren Central to a 21-point cushion.

The Lady Colonels showed some life in the fourth, with Destinee Catlett-Watkins knocking down a pair of 3-pointers on the way to 8 points and Bagwell adding 7 to her team-high 16.

Warren Central spent a lot of time at the free-throw line, finishing 18/31, while Christian County was 6/9 from the charity stripe.
