Karsyn Parker Has Double-Double in Caldwell Win at Hoptown

Caldwell County’s girls overcame a 10-0 deficit to start the game and posted a 40-38 victory Thursday night at Hopkinsville.

Karsyn Parker had 12 points, 13 rebounds and six blocked shots to lead Caldwell, which outscored Hoptown 27-17 in the second half.

Hopkinsville led the entire first half, taking a 21-13 advantage to the break.

But Caldwell (7-11) caught Hoptown at 23-23 on an A.J. Hollowell 3-pointer at the 3:16 mark of the third quarter.

Caldwell led briefly at 25-23 following a putback by Karsyn Parker.

Hopkinsville went back up 27-25 when Donisha Flowers scored on a stickback of her own with 30 seconds left in the third quarter.

Caldwell took the lead for good when Jacey Jaggers drilled a 3-pointer with only 5 seconds remaining in the period to push the visitors ahead 28-27 entering the final frame.

A 3-pointer by Katy Smiley and a three-point play from Jacey Jaggers helped Caldwell extend the margin to 36-29 less than a minute into the fourth quarter.

With Caldwell up 38-31, Hoptown made one final push late.

A three-point play by Lashanti Wilson had Hopkinsville as close as 38-36 with 17 seconds to play.

But Jaggers made two free throws at the other end to give Caldwell a 40-36 cushion with 13 seconds left.

Hoptown kept its hopes alive on Shaterrea Bellamy’s driving basket, but only 2.1 seconds remained.

Caldwell was fouled and missed at the stripe, but with only 0.6 seconds on the clock, Hopkinsville was unable to get off any kind of potential game-winning shot.

Jaggers added 10 points to the Caldwell total.

Forte and Flowers each had nine points to lead Hopkinsville.

Caldwell ended a three-game losing skid while Hoptown has now lost seven straight.

Caldwell returns to action on Saturday afternoon with a home date against Lyon County.

Hopkinsville hosts Union County Friday night.
