Lady Warriors Fall in OT at KCAA State Tournament

Heritage Christian Academy’s run at the KCAA Girls’ State Basketball Tournament came to an end Thursday with a 53-44 overtime loss to Community Christian.

Both teams had sluggish starts to the game, but HCA led 16-10 at halftime. Kinley Deason hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter after Abbi Bullock had scored five in the opening quarter.

Community Christian tied the game at 23 with a quarter left.  They outscored the Lady Warriors 14-5 in the overtime period as HCA ran out of gas.

HCA controlled the boards in the game but shot just 24-percent from the field.  The Lady Warriors also failed to capitalize at the free throw line, making just 11 of 27.

Hallie Zieg led the Lady Warriors with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and five steals.  She was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Deason added nine points and six steals, and Bullock had eight points and six assists.  Bailey Craft was one of three Lady Warriors to grab double-digit rebounds. She had eight points and 13 rebounds. Tori Sutton grabbed 12 rebounds.

Emma Acuff led Community Christian with 20 points.

HCA’s season ends with a record of 2-13. Deason and Bullock are the team’s only seniors.
