Collin Teutsch Claims 113 Title, Caldwell 4th at Region Wrestling

Caldwell's Collin Teutsch defeated Hunter Jenkins of Union County 5-3 in the 113 finals Saturday at the regional wrestling tournament.

Sophomore Collin Teutsch won an individual championship for the second straight year as Caldwell County placed fourth in the team standings at the 1st Region Wrestling Tournament at Union County on Saturday.

Teutsch outdueled Union County’s Hunter Jenkins for a 5-3 decision to claim top honors in the 113-pound weight class.

A year ago, Teutsch was champion at 106.

Teutsch needed to win just twice at the region tournament. He took his semifinal match by pin in just 29 seconds.

Teutsch was one of four Tiger matmen to reach the finals on Saturday.

Riley Johnson took second at 132 pounds, falling to Paducah Tilghman’s Eli Peyton 17-2 in the finals. Johnson pinned his first opponent in 1:08, then earned an 8-3 decision in the semifinals.

Dylan Walls won his first two matches at 170 with quick pins — in 15 seconds and 39 seconds — to reach the championship match. He fell to Dalton Russelburg of Union County 8-3 in the finals.

Walls was regional champion at 126 last season and won the title at 106 pounds three years ago.

Colin Walls took second at 182. He won his semifinal match by pin in 3:32 but then was pinned by Stephen Little of Union County in 3:35 in the finals.

Caldwell’s Colin Walls pinned Paducah Tilghman’s Spencer Redwine in the semifinals of the regional wrestling tournament on Saturday.

Timothy Nichols placed third at 120 poundsfor Caldwell. Nichols lost in the semifinals but came back to win his next two matches. He decisioned Deameion Leavell of Christian County 8-4 in the third-place match.

Two other Tigers have earned berths in the semi-state tournament next Saturday at Owensboro Apollo with fourth-place finishes in the regional tourney.

Logan Brown was fourth at 106, going 2-2 on Saturday.

Cofy Walls went 2-2 at 126. Union County’s Lucas Ricketts won in sudden victory over Walls in a tight third-place match.

Ethan Newsom placed fifth at 138 while Cole Sherill was fifth at 220.

The Tigers totaled 138.5 points on Saturday to finish fourth in the team standings.

Union County won its 18th straight team championship with 275 points. Paducah Tilghman was second with 215 and Christian County took third with 183.
