The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers are headed back to the 8th District championship game for the 6th year in a row. The Lady Tigers advanced by leading wire to wire in a 69-26 win over the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers in a semifinal matchup Tuesday night at Tiger Gym.

The inside-outside combination of the Lady Tigers Donisha Flowers and Jakalyla Epps was too much for the Lady Blazers to handle in the contest. Flowers strong-armed the Lady Blazers in the paint throughout the night, while Epps knocked down some outside shots to take UHA out of the contest in the early going.

Hoptown opened by scoring the first 13 points of the game. The two teams would play fairly even over the remainder of the quarter as the Lady Tigers took a 20-6 lead after one.

Flowers really asserted herself in the second quarter against the short-handed Lady Blazers, who dressed only six players for the contest. The Lady Tigers would lead by as many as 23 points in the quarter before settling into a 34-14 halftime lead.

Any thoughts of a big comeback by the Lady Blazers were quickly put to rest coming out of the locker room. Hopkinsville started the second half with a 12-0 run to move the lead out to 46-14. The Lady Tigers would lead 56-18 when the quarter ended.

With the running clock in play, the final quarter played out quickly as Hopkinsville cruised on out to the 43 point win.

Donisha Flowers paced Hopkinsville with 24 points. Jakayla Epps also reached double figures with 11.

Alecia Davis topped the scoring list for University Heights with seven points. Amaryia Bass and Aliviah Acree added six points each for the Lady Blazers.

Hopkinsville improves to 2-8 and will move on to Thursday night’s championship game to take on Christian County for the 6th straight year in the final. Hopkinsville claimed the championship in 2020. The two teams met earlier this season, with Christian County taking a 58-38 win.

UHA wraps up its COVID-19 shortened season with a record of 1-16.
