You could say that Murray High School pitcher Kade Gibson was on his game Saturday afternoon, and then some. Gibson limited the University Heights Academy Blazers to just one hit over seven innings as the Tigers picked up their second win this season over the Blazers in the 2021 season, this time by a score of 7-0.

Gibson sat down the first nine Blazer batters he faced. Seth Hancock led off the bottom of the 4th with a single but was thrown out stealing to end the threat. UHA again had the leadoff runner reach base in the bottom of the 5th when Luke Welch was hit by a pitch, but Gibson got Ben Stone to ground into a double play to wipe out the baserunner.

Gibson only allowed one Blazer baserunner to reach third base over the entire game. He finished with 10 strikeouts and just one walk.

The Tigers would get all the runs they needed from the first two batters to step up to the plate. Carson Tucker opened the game with a hard-hit single. Nick Holcomb then gapped a double to drive him in to make it 1-0. Murray would add another run before the inning was over.

The Tigers scored a run in the 2nd, two more in the fifth, and closed the day out with two more runs in the 7th to pick up the win. Kade Gibson helped his own cause when he took one over the left field fence in the top of the 5th inning.

Seth Hancock went the distance for UHA on the mound. He gave up seven runs, six of them earned, on ten hits, striking out four, while walking four.

The Blazers drop to 4-5 on the season. UHA returns to action Monday evening at 6:00 at Simmons Field when they host Lyon County in an opening round game of the 2nd Region All A Classic.
