Five-Run Fifth Inning Spells Defeat for Warriors in Tennessee

A five-run fifth inning was enough to send Community Christian past Heritage Christian Academy 5-3 Monday in Murfreesboro.

The Tennessee school scored all five runs with two outs. They used three walks, two hits, and an HCA error to complete their rally.

HCA got on the board in the third inning when J.J. Thompson walked, stole second, stole third, and scored on a throwing error by the catcher.

Down 5-1 in the seventh inning, Tra Fowler singled and came around to score on a passed ball.  Carter Glover singled home HCA’s third run, but a ground out ended both the rally and the game.

Fowler and Trenton Hayes each had two hits for the Warriors, with one of Hayes’ hit a double.

Heritage only had one error but it was a costly one that led to five unearned runs. Hayes struck out six and allowed just three hits on the mound in 4.2 innings.

HCA drops to 3-5 and will host Franklin Road Christian Tuesday at David Eddings Field.
