Brian Coleman knew just how special twins Destin and Keaten Wade were in middle school — and was thrilled to get them to play football for him at Summit High School in Spring Hill, Tenn.

“We had to fight the private schools to keep them but fortunately they wanted to play with their friends,” said Coleman. “They are big on friends and have a good time with them. We have been blessed to have them. They both started toward the end of their freshman seasons and have been great.”

Friday the brothers will announce whether they will play their college football at Tennessee, Virginia, Louisville, or Kentucky.

Destin Wade is a 6-3, 205-pound quarterback and Keaten Wade is a 6-4, 225-pound linebacker/running back. Keaton is considered the nation’s 184th best overall prospect by 247Sports Composite and the 16th best outside linebacker. Destin is considered the nation’s 38th best athlete and a top 500 player by ESPN.

Walt Wells, now the head coach at Eastern Kentucky was a quality control staff member at Kentucky in 2018-19 when he started recruiting the twins. Coach Coleman said Kentucky was one of the first schools they visited.

“They measured their wingspan and suddenly people started talking about them being elite,” Coleman said.

The coach said he could not “put my finger on” why the twins like Kentucky so much other than the early interest UK showed and continued interest the UK staff has shown.

“I don’t ask them questions. I just care that they are taken care of and all the schools they have on their list will take care of them,” Coleman said. “I don’t ask them questions to be 100 percent honest. I don’t know where they will go.

“They are just great kids. They like being around friends. They will stick their head in my office just to see how I am doing. They are very nonchalant. But on the field, they have that switch to turn on when it is time to play and get serious.”

The two will make their college choice in a ceremony in their high school’s main gym at 5 p.m. EST Friday. One day later four-star offensive lineman Kiyanuta Goodwin of Charleston, Indiana, will be choosing between Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, Michigan State, and Kentucky — and he’s making his announcement at Aspiration Gym in Louisville, the same gym where current UK receiver Wan’Dale Robinson trained in high school. Many thought Goodwin would be headed to Ohio State but Kentucky seems to have emerged as his favorite and he would be the third highest-rated commit in the recruiting rankings era. If it happens, credit Vince Marrow.

“We won a state championship last year and this may be comparable as far as the buzz goes and everybody talking about it and showing up,” Coleman said. “There’s quite a buzz around the school.”

Coleman recently talked to Wells who “still raves about the Kentucky staff and would love to be there” if he had not got the chance to be the head coach at Eastern Kentucky.

Coleman also knows the significance for the Kentucky program if the Wades do pick UK.

“That would be big for Kentucky,” Coleman said.

Indeed it would.
