The recent girls’ state high school basketball tournament showcased a lot of young, talented players in Kentucky. One of those was Pikeville freshman point guard Trinity Rowe, who already has four college scholarship offers including one from Eastern Kentucky. Pikeville coach Kristy Orem says the first time Rowe made a big impression on Eastern Kentucky coach Samantha Williams to get the early offer from here.

“Sam knew she was special as soon as she saw her at camp and it only took her two or three weeks to offer Trinity before her eighth-grade year,” Orem said. “I think she is going to get a lot of offers. Sam knows talent and what it is all about and wanted to get in early with her.”

Orem remembers the first time Rowe came to her summer camp.

“I knew she was special but I didn’t realize just how special,” Orem said. “She’s not just a great player and point guard and leader but she’s also a phenomenal kid.

“She always puts God and her family first.”

Rowe has already played in three state tournaments and averaged 15.1 points and shot 46.8 percent from the field, 43 percent from 3-point range with 58 treys, and 81 percent (56 of 69) at the foul line.

She has shot at least 75 percent at the foul line the last three seasons but dramatically improved her 3-point shooting this season after going just 14 of 60 from long range her first two years on the team.

Rowe already has 887 points and 209 rebounds in her career and is 121 of 151 from the foul line.

“She loves basketball. She gets better every year,” Orem said. “We will watch the state (tournament) video for more motivation. We did that last year, too. She worked so hard and got so much stronger this year and you could see how that strength helped her.”

Two days after her team lost in the state tourney she was practicing with the West Virginia Thunder, her AAU team.

“She never quits working. We have 10 high school players and six are freshmen. Every one of those girls wants to be better because of Trinity. They watch her and want to be like her,” Orem said. “So I have no doubt she’s going to just keep getting better and more and more college coaches are going to see that.”
