Boyle County’s Alyssa Wray is another step closer to her dream of winning American Idol. She was one of 12 finalists competing on the show Sunday night for nine spots in the next round and received the votes from American Idol fans to advance. She’s now off to Disney World Resort for a week with the other finalists because there will not be a show April 25.

Wray, 19, sang “This Is Me” from the movie “Greatest Showman” on Oscar night. Before her performance, she told singer Bobby Bones that one day “I want to win an Oscar.”

She also told him she sang the same song two years ago in high school and it had a special message for her.

“I used to see my height, skin color and personality as scars,” Wray told Bones.

He told her when she was singing she was still the “exact same person” and to have fun.

Like she has on previous shows, Wray delivered and had judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan all on their feet applauding when she finished.

“I was praying through the entire performance, ‘Hold it,'” Richie told Wray. “You are a subtle force. The more you hold … we know when the guns go off it will be amazing. You held it and were subtle.

“When you finally delivered, we were all standing. It was fantastic.”

Wray thanked Richie and walked off the stage blowing kisses while awaiting for America to vote on whether she would advance or not.
