5-2-ashby

Heritage Christian Academy may have cemented themselves as the favorite to win the KCAA state baseball title after sweeping Assumption Academy Saturday in Louisville.

HCA came into the weekend ranked No. 1 in the KCAA Power Poll.  Assumption was No. 2.

In the opener, the Warriors scored three runs in both the first and fourth innings to win 6-2.

David Jent had a two-run single in the first inning and later scored on a Grant Floyd single.

In the fourth inning, Boyd plated a run with an RBI groundout. Tra Fowler scored ahead of a J.J. Thompson triple to right, and Carter Glover singled home Thompson.

Thompson and Floyd each had two hits with eight different players getting at least one hit.

Trenton Hayes pitched three hitless innings to get the win, striking out six.  Walker Ashby got the save.

In the nightcap, no save was necessary as J.J. Thompson pitched a four-hit shutout as HCA won 3-0.  The Warrior freshman struck out 10 batters and walked no one while scattering four singles over five innings.

David Jent had two hits and two RBIs, and Weston Powell had a double.

Glover drove in HCA’s first run with a third inning groundout. Jent’s two-run single in the fifth rounded out the scoring.

HCA moved to 4-0 in KCAA play, while Assumption fell to 2-2.

The Warriors will host Kenwood Tuesday and return to KCAA play Saturday with a home contest against Cornerstone.
