No one ever wanted to say last year’s Kentucky team had chemistry issues, but with COVID protocols it had to be hard for the Cats to build a bond last season. Already it seems like next season’s team is ahead of schedule compared to the 9-16 team of last season based on what transfers CJ Frederick and Sahvir Wheeler have said after joining the program.

Frederick said a lot of his new teammates reached out to him as soon as he signed with UK.

“I thought that was super cool, super special,” Frederick said. “Just reaching out saying they were excited to have me and actually a lot of the guys got a group chat together just kind of putting names in.”

Wheeler dealt with new rosters his two years at Georgia just like Frederick did his three seasons at Iowa. However, Wheeler immediately felt the same welcoming vibe that Frederick did.

“I feel like just knowing the guys in the group chat, the group messages that we’ve had, it is going to be pretty easy to get along with everyone. Everyone is buying in already, so I’m super excited,” Wheeler said.

Frederick said he was ready to “grow” with his new teammates to get ready for next season.

“Learn more about them and create relationships with them. I love all of their games. They’re special players,” Frederick said.

“I think this team this year everyone fits, and I think you’re seeing kind of a complete team. I’m just really excited to get to work with them and get better with them and go on this journey.”
