Lady Lyons Repeat as District Softball Champs

5-31-collins

After watching Livingston Central pull of a 10-inning semifinal upset of Crittenden County, the Lyon County Lady Lyons wanted to make sure no such momentum carried over into Monday’s championship game.  The Lady Lyons put up crooked numbers in every inning to beat the Lady Cardinals 16-0 for their second straight district softball title.

Sydney Melton belted a pair of home runs to increase her region-leading total to 18 and scored four runs as the Lady Lyons put 14 hits into the scorebook.

Lyon scored twice in the first on a two-run single by Gracen Wynn.

Melton’s first homer was a two-run shot in the second.  Wynn also had an RBI single in the frame.

The SEMO signee had a solo shot in the third.

Up 10-0 in the fourth inning, Lyon ended the game with five runs. Keirsten Craft had an RBI hit, and Calista Collins followed with a two-run poke. Wynn ended the game via the mercy rule with a run-scoring single.  Wynn had three hits and five RBIs on the afternoon. Collins also drove in four runs.

Kaelyn Conger needed only 54 pitches to get the four-inning win.  The only hit she allowed was a first-inning single to Sydney Lasher.  Conger retired the final 11 batters she faced and struck out eight in the game.

Lyon County moves on to the region tournament with a record of 25-9. They advanced to the region title game in 2019.

Livingston Central at 17-8 will advance to its first region tournament since 2014.

The Second Region Softball Tournament gets underway Saturday at Christian County High School.
