Henderson Eliminates Christian 9-5 in Regional Opener

Henderson County rallied from a 3-0 deficit early to defeat Christian County 9-5 in the first round of the 2nd Region baseball tournament Saturday at University Heights Academy in Hopkinsville.

Up just 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Henderson (21-14) used back-to-back home runs by Andrew Mills and Daniel Gardner to open up a 9-4 advantage. Mills started things with a three-run shot to right. Gardner followed with his solo shot to center.

Mills finished the day 3-for-4 with the three runs batted in. Colton Evans was 2-for-2 with a double while Wesley Goldsberry was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Chance Henderson went 3-for-4 for Christian County with an RBI. Carter Sholar was 2-for-3.

Seth Galloway, the second of three Henderson hurlers, was the winning pitcher. He went 4.2 innings and allowed one earned run on two base hits while striking out five and walking four. Luke Staples got the final out of the game with the bases-loaded in the top of the seventh to earn the save.

Christian, which scored three times in the top of the second to take the lead and tied the game 4-4 with a single run in the top of the fifth, ends the season 8-20.

Henderson will play Crittenden County in Sunday’s 1 p.m. semifinal game at UHA.
