With a favorable draw and facing a Union County team that had dropped seven of their last nine games, the Christian County Lady Colonels looked poised for a run in the 2nd Region tournament on Saturday.  However, the Bravettes had other ideas, with freshman Cadence Coker scattering five hits on the way to a complete-game win in the circle.

Union County struck first in the top of the second when Jralee Roberson doubled and then came home on an error for a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Colonels pulled even in the bottom of the third when Chloe Craft singled to lead off the inning and scored on a two-out RBI single by Pickle Winkler.

With runners on second and third and two out in the fourth, Union’s Mary Oxford singled to score two and put the Bravettes in front 3-1.

The Lady Colonels loaded the bases in the fifth after two singles and a walk and cut the margin to a run when Riley Hancock drew a walk to bring in a run.  However, with the bases still loaded and two out, a ground out ended the inning.

Coker only needed eight pitches to retire the Lady Colonels in their final at-bat, getting three flyouts to end the game.  She allowed two earned runs on five hits with a pair of walks and no strikeouts.

Hancock took the loss for the Lady Colonels, working three and two-thirds and allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Jaylen Tackett and Oxford both had a pair of hits for Union County, with Oxford driving in two.

Winkler had a hit and an RBI for Christian County, with Kimberlyn-Gracie Harned, Aalaisha McGregor, Avery Adcock, and Craft each hitting safely once.

Union County advances to Sunday’s semifinal against the winner of the game between Madisonville-North Hopkins and Livingston Central.

Christian County ends the season with a record of 23-14.
