A six-run first inning sent the Madisonville-North Hopkins softball team on its way to a 9-2 2nd Region first-round victory over Livingston Central on Saturday at Christian County.

Looking to defend their 2019 region title, the Lady Maroons moved into a semifinal matchup with Union County on Sunday.  The two teams met back on May 25, with Madisonville cruising to a 14-0 win over the Bravettes.

The Lady Cardinals jumped in front in the first when Victoria Joiner led off the game with a home run, but they were undone by three walks, a pair of errors, and a hit by pitch in the bottom of the inning.

Paige Patterson, Mackenzie Stoltz, and Kennedy Justice provided RBI singles and the Lady Maroons led 6-1 after one.

In the third, a run came in on an error and Brenna Sherman followed with a two-run home run to stretch the Madisonville advantage to 9-1.

The Lady Cardinals got a run back in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Victoria Harris, but couldn’t get any closer.

Patterson went the distance and earned the win in the circle, allowing two earned runs on three hits with five walks and four strikeouts.

Sherman and Justice each had a pair of hits for the Lady Maroons and Sherman and Stoltz each drove in two.

Madeline Norton took the loss for Livingston, working two innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on five hits with three walks.  Madison Bolte pitched the final four frames, yielding three unearned runs on five hits with a walk and a strikeout.
