After holding the region’s highest-scoring team to no runs and only three hits in a semifinal win over Lyon County, Henderson County’s Kelsie Hill was just as dominant in a 6-0 2nd-Region-title victory over Madisonville-North Hopkins.
With both the semifinal and championship games played Sunday at Christian County, Hill had to wait less than thirty minutes to return to the circle after shutting down the Lady Lyons.
The momentum carried over, with Hill going the distance and not allowing a hit until Madisonville’s Chloe Young and Amber Osborne led off the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back singles.
The Lady Colonels took control from the outset as Julianna Hibbs drove in a run with a double before a second and third came in on a wild pitch and an error. Hallie McCracken capped the four-run first inning with an RBI single and Hill had all the run support she would need.
Henderson added a pair of runs in its half of the seventh, with Hibbs driving in her second of the game and JaMaya Byrum singling to bring in the sixth.
The Lady Colonels earn their first region championship since 2006 while Madisonville fails to defend its 2019 title and finishes the season at 15-15 overall.
