In a matchup between two of the most explosive offenses in the area, it was the pitchers that took center stage in Sunday’s 2nd Region semifinal between Lyon County and Henderson County.

Lyon County’s Kaelyn Conger allowed only two runs on six hits but was outdueled by Henderson’s Kelsie Hill in a 2-0 loss.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Julianna Hibbs singled to lead off the inning and came home on Hallie McCracken’s single to right field for a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Lyons threatened in the sixth, using a Sydney Melton single and an error to put runners on first and second with two outs.  However, Hill came through with one of her eight strikeouts to keep them scoreless.

After Henderson added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, Lyon County’s Gracen Wynn led off the top of the seventh with a single to give the Lady Lyons a ray of hope.  However, Hill got a line-out and struck out the final two batters to send the Lady Colonels into the title game against Madisonville-North Hopkins.

Conger took the loss, allowing one earned run with a walk and nine strikeouts in six innings.  She also had a hit, with the only other Lyon County hits coming from Melton and Wynn.

The All-A State champion Lady Lyons finish the season at 26-10 overall.
