Madisonville-North Hopkins’ Paige Patterson scattered four hits in a complete-game shutout of Union County to advance to Sunday night’s 2nd Region title game against the winner of Lyon County and Henderson County.

It was a pitcher’s duel through four innings, with Union’s Cadence Coker keeping the Lady Maroons off the scoreboard until the top of the fifth.  Brenna Sherman got things going with a solo home run to right field before Chloe Young followed with a shot over the center-field fence for a 2-0 lead.

Madisonville added another run on a Union County error in the sixth before Patterson got in on the act with an RBI single in the top of the seventh.

Patterson issued three walks and struck out one to pick up the win and was 3/4 at the plate.  Coker took the loss for Union, allowing five runs, three earned, on eight hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

Union County’s season comes to an end with a mark of 19-15.
