UHA Names Melvin Brown Boys Hoops Coach With Sparks to Serve as AD

University Heights Academy has turned inward to fill a pair of athletic positions. School officials announced Thursday morning that former girls hoops coach Taylor Sparks has been selected as the new athletic director for the school and that boys assistant basketball coach Melvin Brown would step up to the head coaching position for the team.

Both positions became vacant when Grant Shouse stepped down in late May.

Sparks has been on staff at University Heights for 13 years. He coached the UHA girls team for ten years and previously served as Athletic Director at Trigg County High School from 1994-2006. In a statement, Sparks noted, “I am excited for this new challenge and I look forward to working with the administration, staff, coaches, and players to continue the athletic excellence here at University Heights Academy.”

Brown is a 2002 graduate of University Heights Academy. He has been an assistant coach under Shouse for four years. Brown played for the Blazers from 1998 to 2002. He is a 2007 graduate of Berea College.
