Two Hoptown Athletes Reach Medal Podium at State Track Meet

Hopkinsville had two athletes reach the medal podium at the Class 3A State Track and Field Meet Saturday on the campus of the University of Kentucky.

Chase Atkins finished third in the 1600-meter run in a school-record time of 4:19.32.  He also finished 15th in the 3200-meter run.

Lori Moyd was seventh in the shot put with a personal-best distance of 35-feet, 2.25-inches.

Kemaure Mumford had a top-10 finish for the Tigers with his heave of 138-feet, 11-inches good for 10th place.  The junior missed the medal podium by less than five feet.

Zahnte Brown was 12th in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 15.59 seconds. He is one of three Hoptown hurdlers to break the 16-second mark joining Michael McDuffen and Leslie Johnson.  The school record of 14.87 seconds is owned by Johnson who established the mark at the 1981 state meet.

Chance Jones was 17th in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:37.77 seconds, setting a new personal best by a second.

The 3200-meter relay team of Jonathan Bridges, Chance Jones, Ross Binkley, and Quinn Miller finished in 24th place in 9:32.44.

Allison Wood joined Moyd as the only Lady Tiger females to compete at state.  Wood finished 20th in the 1600-meter run in 5:44.01.
