Around 170 campers attended the first Greg Buckner Basketball Camp this week at the Planters Bank/Jennie Stuart Sportsplex Hopkinsville.

Buckner was an All-State basketball player at University Heights Academy who went on to play at Clemson.  He was taken in the second round of the 1998 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks and played 10 years in the NBA.  Buckner is currently an assistant coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

At his first Hopkinsville camp, Buckner had former teammates and current players and NBA assistant coaches help provide instruction and deliver inspirational messages.

Buckner, who will be inducted into the KHSAA Hall of Fame later this year, said it’s important to reach out and provide guidance to the youth of his hometown through basketball.
