The Caldwell County track team recognized its 2021 athletes and announced award-winners during its annual banquet Tuesday at the CCHS cafeteria.

For the Lady Tigers, Emma Ward was Most Improved, Tamia Walker was Sprinter of the Year, the Distance Runners of the Year were Addyson Schott and Kylee White, the Field Athlete of the Year was Ava Pickett and the Teammate of the Year, as chosen by the team. was Tamia Walker.

For the guys, Ethan Ward was Most Improved, Baron Wells was Sprinter of the Year, Cale Goodwin received the Distance Runner of the Year, Elijah Shaheen was the Field Athlete of the Year, and the Teammate of the Year, as chosen by the team, was Baron Wells.

Caldwell’s boys had two relay teams claim medals recently at the Class 2A state track meet in Lexington. The 800-meter relay team of Giovantie Riley, Ethan Weatherspoon, Baron Wells, and Blake Vivrette placed eighth.

Riley, Weatherspoon and Wells then returned to the medal stand along with Elijah Shaheen after finishing eighth in the 400-meter relay.

Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers claimed one medal at the state meet when Tamia Walker placed 5th in the 200-meter dash.
