A Caldwell County and Fort Campbell football district adversary has a new head coach.

Murray High School announced on Monday that Darren P. Bowling has been hired as the Tigers’ next skipper.

Bowling leaves his position as football head coach and athletic director at Olive Branch High School in Mississippi.

Prior to that, Bowling spent 11 years as head coach of the Union City (Tenn.) Golden Tornadoes, leading that school to four state championships. Bowling’s squads won state titles in 2013, 2014, 2015 (1A), and 2017 (2A), while maintaining a 38-game winning streak from 2013-15.

Before going to Union City, Bowling led the Silliman High School Wildcats, in Clinton, La., (outside of Baton Rouge) to two state championships.

Bowling’s overall coaching record is 216-95.

Murray is in Class 2A’s 1st District along with Caldwell County and Fort Campbell (plus Ballard Memorial and Mayfield).

Fort Campbell is scheduled to travel to Murray on Oct. 1 while Caldwell will visit Murray on Oct. 15.

Murray will have a formal introduction for Bowling after the KHSAA Dead Period ends.

The Murray Tigers went 8-4 last season, reaching the Class 2A state semifinals before falling to Lexington Christian.
