Buoyed by big seasons on the hardwood and diamond, Lyon County had the most wins in boys’ sports in the Second Region for the 2020-21 school year.
Lyon’s 56 wins in three sports were six more than Henderson County’s 50 wins in four sports. Lyon County is one of five schools in the region that did not play football in 2020.
The Lyons’ baseball team set a school record with 30 wins in reaching the state semifinals – the best for any team in 5th District history. They were the only program in the region – boys or girls – to win 30 games.
Lyon’s 22 wins in basketball were also the most of any region team.
Despite not playing soccer, Crittenden County was third in wins with 43. Union County also did not play soccer and recorded 39 wins in three sports to tie Hopkinsville for fourth-most in the region.
Madisonville’s 38 wins ranked sixth followed by UHA [37], Webster County [32], Trigg County [30], and Caldwell County [27].
Hopkins County Central’s 16 wins were the 11th most while Christian County and Livingston Central each had 10 wins. In 2018, Christian County had the most wins in the region with 83.
Dawson Springs, which plays two boys’ sports, had five wins, and Fort Campbell’s baseball team was winless. The Falcons did not field a football, soccer, or basketball team in 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Taking a look at which schools made the biggest wins jump from freshman year in 2018 to senior season in 2021, only three showed an increase.
Lyon County’s wins improved by 27 compared to 2018. Crittenden increased by 18 wins and Henderson County by eight wins.
Christian County [-48] had the biggest drop followed by Caldwell County [-29], and Livingston Central [-22].

Not all schools in the region participate in all four sports during a normal sports season. Livingston Central and Dawson Springs do not field a soccer or football team. Lyon County and University Heights don’t play football, and Crittenden County and Union County do not play soccer.
