Two area softball players were among those on a Kentucky travel team that traveled to Colorado this week and ended their stay with a third-place finish in an event involving some of the best teams from across the country. The Louisville Lady Sluggers 18U took a 3rd place finish in the 18 Power Pool Championship Bracket in the 2021 Colorado 4th of July Sparklers and Fireworks.

The team, which includes Lyon County’s Calista Collins and Christian County’s Pickle Winkler, went 7-3 on the week. The Lady Sluggers began by winning a pair of games in Pool B.

After winning that pool, the Lady Sluggers dropped a pair in the TV 1-Seeds.

The Lady Sluggers then rebounded by winning three to take the 18 Power Pool Bracket B and advance to the championship bracket of the division.

In the championship bracket, the Lady Sluggers won their first two games before falling to Lady Dukes Lamar, who had handed the team one of their two previous losses in the event.

Lyon County’s Calista Collins had a big week for the Lady Sluggers, batting .357 with 5 home runs and 12 RBIs.

Christian County’s Pickle Winkler excelled in the outfield and added a couple of hits and three runs scored for the Lady Sluggers.

The event began June 27th and wrapped up Sunday in metropolitan Denver.
