SPOTLIGHT ATHLETE – Ryan Myers

Hopkinsville’s Ryan Myers recently wrapped up a stellar two-sport high school career, making his mark on both the gridiron and the diamond and helping to add to the Tigers’ trophy case.

Myers has pledged his baseball future to the University of the Cumberlands after a senior season that saw him bat .312 with a home run and team-highs in walks (32) and runs scored (43).  He also led the way on the base paths, stealing 30 bases in 31 attempts and helping the Tigers capture their first 8th District title since 2014.

As a sophomore, Myers was a key component on the Tigers’ 2nd Region title team, hitting .295 with 33 hits, 21 RBI, and a pair of home runs.

He joined the Tiger football team as a junior, using his speed to become a weapon as both a wide receiver and punt and kick returner.  He totaled 11 catches for 128 yards and 2 touchdowns in his first season, before earning All-WKC honors with 294 yards on 16 catches with two scores as a senior.  The Tigers captured a region title and advanced to the state semi-finals for the first time since 2004.

Myers recently spoke to YSE about his trophy-winning seasons with the baseball and football teams and detailed his plans for the rest of the summer.
