Miners Rally Late to Take Down Hoppers 12-11

A night after giving up only one run in a win over Dubois County, Hoptown Hoppers pitching had a tougher go of it Friday night in Madisonville. The Miners scored eight runs over the final three innings, including three in the bottom of the ninth to rally past the Hoppers 12-11 at Elmer Kelley Stadium.

The Hoppers entered the bottom of the ninth holding an 11-9 lead. The first two batters for Madisonville reached on singles. Will Gibbs then tied the game with a two-run double. One out later, the Miners walked it off on a base hit from Reed Latimer to pick up the win.

The finish capped off a two-inning rally that saw Madisonville come from 11-7 down to take the game. The Hoppers had taken the four-run lead with a big five-run inning in the top of the 8th.

The Miners scored in six of their at-bats, pounding out 12 hits in the game. The Hoppers scored their eleven runs on a total of nine hits.

Noah Brown and Kurt Paldino each had two hits to lead the Hoppers. Jake Parr, Landon Choboy, and B.J. Banyon had two RBIs each.

Both teams’ pitching staffs had some control issues on the night. The two teams combined for 14 walks in the contest, as well as four hit batters.
