Megan Hertter Wins Second Annual Cullan Brown Invitational

Megan Hertter was able to save bogey on the final hole and win the Second Annual Cullan Brown Invitational Friday at the Calvert City Country Club.

The Marshall County senior edged Lyon County junior Cathryn Brown by one shot to win the two-day event by one shot.  Both golfers were tied on the 18th hole.  Hertter’s second shot on the par-4 18th hole was right of the cup, while Brown’s went 15 feet past.

Brown’s putt rolled past the hole and off the fast, elevated green.  She almost chipped in to save par but tapped in for bogey.

Hertter missed her birdie putt then rolled her par attempt past the cup. She regained her composure and dropped the bogey putt for the win.

Hertter’s two days ended at 1-under par.  Brown, a Lyon County junior and sister of the tournament’s namesake, finished at 1-over Friday after a round of 1-under Thursday at Paducah’s Paxton Park course.

Marshall County eighth-grader Trinity Beth and Graves County senior Elie West tied for third at 4-over. Beth claimed the third-place trophy on the first playoff hole.

Marshall County senior Savannah Howell shot 10-over to finish in fifth place, one shot ahead of defending KHSAA state champion Macey Brown of Apollo High.

Caldwell County’s Claire Knoth made the biggest jump, improving four places to grab seventh place. Her Friday round of 75 included five birdies,

Ellie Roof [+14], Katie Roberts [+15], Mary Browder Howell [+15], and Kaitlyn Zieba [+18] rounded out the top 11 in the high school girls’ division.

Bellarmine golfer and McCracken County alum Jessica Stephens won the college division in a one-hole playoff over Madison Smith. Both finished at 13-over, four shots better than Murray State golfer Lauren Gilchrist of Crittenden County.

The event, organized by the Bluegrass Golf Tour, raises money for the Cullan Brown Memorial West Kentucky Golf Development Fund.
