Davion Mintz said his return to Kentucky was not motivated by potential revenue that might come his way through the name, image, and likeness changes but guess who the first UK basketball player is with a shoe contract? You got it. Mintz, a sixth-year senior, now has a deal with Reebok. He announced it on Friday on Instagram.

Kentucky obviously is a Nike school so Mntz will not wear Reebok shoes or gear during games under NIL protocols. However, he will be free to promote and wear Reebok gear as he wants off the court.

Mintz also likely has been making money — or will — after joining Cameo that gives anyone a chance for $25 to get a video message from him.

Mintz, UK’s best player last season, is not the only player on John Calipari’s team with a financial deal. It started with Dontaie Allen signing a clothing deal with The Players Trunk. Transfer Kellan Grady is on board with iSlide to promote UK sandals, which should be a big seller. Keion Brook signed to do camps and events with Pro Camps U and G3 College.

Just a few hours before Mintz announced his deal, Calipari was on Twitter talking about the NIL and what impact it was having with his team.

“Really proud of our team. They have come together, improved their skills, and grown to know and really respect each other. The summer has been a home run for our program,” Calipari said. “They’ve also taken on NIL, but haven’t just done great deals as individuals.

“They’re also doing things collectively, coming together to make sure that all players benefit. They’ve used the brand and have achieved significant numbers in a short amount of time.

“But, they all know that their brand and value will ultimately be decided between the white lines! That has always been the case here and it’s why our players have earned $3 billion in NBA contracts. The brand will always be WINNING!”
