Even as he weighed his NBA options many wondered if Davion Mintz might not opt to go overseas to begin his professional career rather than return for a sixth year of college basketball if he did not get a chance to play in the NBA. Instead, Mintz decided to return to Kentucky for another senior season thanks to the COVID do-over and insisted he never really thought about going overseas to play.

“Honestly I didn’t,” he said.

Mintz knew coming back to Kentucky was an option so he was in no rush to turn professional or go overseas if he did not have to take that route.

“My goal was to try to find an organization to use my skill sets immediately or come back to Kentucky,” he said.

Mintz had gone through the NBA evaluation process once at Creighton before transferring to UK but said knowing more about what to expect helped him.

“This time it was more personal for me and my team and do you want to go back to college or take the professional route,” Mintz said. “It was more of a bigger thought process this time but a lot still went into it.”
