Kaitlyn Dykes made the most of her one year on the diamond for the Lyon County Lady Lyons. She parlayed her senior season into a chance to play softball in college, signing with Brescia University Monday.
Dykes was set to join the Lady Lyons prior to her junior year but COVID-19 ended her season and the softball season of everyone in Kentucky in 2020. Knowing she only had one year left, Kaitlyn went to work in the offseason to improve her game.
The payoff was a team-leading .486 batting average for the Lady Lyons in 2021. She drove in 15 runs and was second on the team with 52 hits. For her efforts, she was named to the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association All-State Team.
On Monday, Dykes signed to play softball at Brescia University in Owensboro, joining a recent list of Lady Lyons to play for the Bearcats that includes Lily Jones and Courtney Kleuppel.
Brescia is an NAIA school located in Owensboro that competes in the River States Conference.
