A night after losing a tough battle with Henderson County, the Caldwell County Tigers hit the road to take on their border rivals Lyon County. The Tigers rebounded from their Thursday night loss by getting a hat trick from Grayden Miller as they fought off the pesky Lyons to take a 4-2 win.

The Tigers controlled the flow of the match most of the night, but could never deliver the knockout blow in the match. That control of the match was reflected in the shots on goal, as Caldwell County outshot the Lyons for the night 33 to 10.

Caldwell County got things going early on a pair of goals from Grayden Miller, one at 6:20 and one at 11:38. Both were headers off corner kicks, one coming from the left corner, the other coming from the right.

Less than three minutes later the Lyons made a move to get back into the fray. Timothy Stewart took a pass from Carlos Coronado and found the net to cut the lead to 2-1.

Shortly after that goal came a turning point in the match when Lyon County’s Nathan Hague and Caldwell County’s Timothy Nichols were involved in a collision on the field. Nichols was injured on the play but was also given a red card for the contact, leaving the Lyons to play one man down for the remainder of the match.

Grayden Miller scored shortly after. This time on a breakaway, which extended the Tiger lead to 3-1. Blake Vivrette would add a goal five minutes later, at the 27:30 mark, on a breakaway down the right side of the field to make it 4-1, which is how the half would come to an end.

The Lyons would trim the lead to 4-2 on a penalty kick from Timothy Stewart at 56:00, but the Tigers were able to keep the Lyons at arms’ length for the rest of the match as they held on to take the two-goal win.

With the win, Caldwell County improves to 2-1 on the year. Lyon County falls to 0-3.
