The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers picked up their third win in a row, and set up a chance to clinch the top seed in the 8th District Saturday evening, as they got past Christian County 4-1 Tuesday night at the Stadium of Champions. With a win Saturday over the UHA Lady Blazers, Hoptown would lock up the top slot in the girls’ 8th District soccer tournament.

Anna Hernandez had a big night for Hopkinsville in the win over the Lady Colonels, finishing with two goals and one assist.

It was Hernandez’s pass to Allison Wood just two minutes into the match that gave Hopkinsville the early 1-0 lead. Seven minutes later, Hernandez fought off a defender and the goalie to send the ball into the net and extend the lead to 2-0.

Christian County got some of the momentum back late in the half. After Hopkinsville was called for a handball in the box, Megan Lacy scored the penalty kick to cut the Hopkinsville lead to 2-1 at the break.

Anna Hernandez scored her second goal of the night on a runner down the middle of the field at 55:15 to push the Lady Tiger lead back out to two goals at 3-1. Hopkinsville then put the match away at the 61:00 when Laney Wilson scored off a corner kick to push the margin on out to 4-1.

The match was played fairly evenly as Christian County had 15 shots on goal to the Lady Tigers 14. Both teams had about the same amount of time with possession as well.

Hopkinsville gets back to action Friday when they travel to take on Lyon County.
