One of the hottest teams in the 2nd Region extending its winning run to eight games on Tuesday night when the Lyon County Lady Lyons used four second-half goals to knock off visiting Trigg County 5-0.

The Lady Lyons earned a tight 2-1 victory when the teams met in Cadiz two weeks ago, and the rematch in Eddyville appeared early on to have the makings of another nailbiter.

Lyon County got on the board just a minute into the contest and outshot the Lady Wildcats 11-6 in the first 40 minutes, but had to settle for a 1-0 lead at the break.

However, while only managing six shots on frame in the second half, the Lady Lyons made them count with four goals to put the game away.

They doubled the advantage with 30 minutes left to play, before netting the third goal with just over 15 left.  Two goals in the final two minutes iced the game and kept Lyon County perfect in 5th-District play at 3-0.

Rose Smith did most of the damage with four goals to run her season total to 35.  Leah Schroeder added a goal and an assist and Alice Smith provided a pair of assists.

Goalkeeper Maddie Russell made 16 saves to earn her third-straight shutout and fifth of the season.

The Lady Lyons take their 10-1 record to Caldwell County on Thursday night.  They were 6-1 winners over the Lady Tigers when the teams met in Eddyville just over a month ago.

The loss is the second in three games for the Lady Wildcats and they’ll look to get back on track when they host Crittenden County on Thursday.  Trigg took the first matchup of the season 4-0 over the Lady Rockets.
