The Caldwell County Lady Tigers will play Saturday morning in Richmond for the chance to advance on to the championship bracket of the All “A” Classic state volleyball tournament. The Lady Tigers are in that position after going 1-1 in the first two matches of pool play Friday evening.

The Lady Tigers opened play by taking on last season’s All “A” runner-up, the Ballard Memorial Lady Bombers. Ballard again looked like a team with a chance to win the tournament, getting by Caldwell County in straight sets 25-11 and 25-16.

Katie Menser had three kills for the Lady Tigers. Kynady Thomas and Lily Hoard added two each. Claire Knoth and Kyndra Winters had two service aces each. Adison Sullenger and Mary Tays finished with three digs apiece. Sullenger had 11 assists in the match.

The Lady Tigers’ second match of pool play had them facing 12th Region champion Somerset Christian. Somerset Christian very nearly kept the Lady Tigers from having a chance to move into the championship bracket. Somerset Christian rolled through the opening set 25-12.

Just as it appeared the Lady Tigers were in deep trouble, they came fighting back. Caldwell County won the second set 25-19. The Lady Tigers closed out the match by winning the third set 25-21.

Katie Menser had seven kills in the match, while Kynady Thomas added six. Menser and Maggy Griggs added three service aces each. It was another big match for Adison Sullenger with 20 assists.

After the first two matches of pool play, the standings in Pool C are:

Ballard Memorial 2-0
Caldwell County 1-1
Sayre 1-1
Somerset Christian 0-2

Should Ballard Memorial beat Somerset Christian as expected, the winner of Saturday morning’s match between Sayre and Caldwell County would advance on to the championship bracket.
