Hopkins County Central picked up its first-ever win over Hopkinsville in 13 career meetings with a 3-1 win over the Tigers Thursday in Morton’s Gap.
Gavin Lear broke a second-half tie with his seventh goal of the season to put the Storm ahead 2-1 in the 64th minute. Austin Sifuentes added an insurance goal in the 69th minute.
Down 1-0 at halftime, Spencer Powell got Hopkinsville on the board in the 58th minute when scored off a misplayed ball on the right side. The goal was Powell’s first as a Tiger.
It’s the ninth time in 10 games that Hopkinsville has been held to one goal or fewer.
Hopkinsville will look for its first win of the season Saturday when it hosts Apollo at noon.
