After opening the 2021 soccer season at 1-4, the Fort Campbell Falcons have gotten on a bit of a roll. The Falcons held off a last-minute rally from the Christian County Colonels and picked up a 3-2 district win in extremely wet and sloppy field conditions Wednesday night at the Stadium of Champions.

The field was already wet from rains that rolled across the region Tuesday. Then, less than an hour before the start of the match, a downpour rolled through and soaked them even more. The irony of the evening was that by the time the match started, the sun was shining brightly over the water-logged field.

The two teams battled the conditions and each other through the opening forty minutes of the match. The match stayed scoreless until the 37th minute when Ashton Smith found the goal for Christian County to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead.

However, the Falcons seized the momentum back right before the teams headed into the break. Fort Campbell would score at the 39:00 to even the match at 1-1.

The momentum of the late first-half goal carried into the second half for the Falcons. Fort Campbell would score goals in the 54th and 63 minutes to extend the lead out to 3-1.

The score would remain that way until the 79:00 mark when Brylle Javier found the ball in traffic in front of the net and came up with the score to cut the lead to 3-2. The Colonels would get two great looks at the goal in stoppage time, one from Javier and one from Ashton Smith, but neither could get the ball past Fort Campbell keeper London Tubb as the Falcons held on for the win.

Aiden Blaszkowski finished with two goals for the Falcons, while Mateo Cerritos Gato scored the other.

Fort Campbell improves to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in district play with the win. Christian County falls to 0-13-1 overall and 0-2 in the district.
