Trigg County will send two golfers to the KHSAA State Championships next week at Bowling Green Country Club.

Junior Ty Butts and freshman Hayden Reynolds earned that right with strong showings Monday in the 1st Region golf tournament at the Country Club of Paducah.

On a day when course conditions were difficult, Butts placed fourth overall with a 5-over-par round of 77.

Reynolds tied for fifth with an 8-over 80.

Windy conditions and a tough course setup, combined with ongoing construction on the front nine — the course was installing new cart paths while the regional was being played — made it an over 5-hour grind for most golfers.

Host Paducah St. Mary swept top honors, with Rocco Zakutney claiming medalist with an even-par round of 72. The Vikings took the team title with a 314 — nine shots better than the nearest competitors.

McCracken County was runner-up after both the Mustangs and Trigg carded team scores of 323. McCracken edged the Wildcats by one shot from each team’s No. 5 player.

Marshall County teammates Trey Wall and Camdyn McLeod each turned in rounds of 76 to tie for second individually.

Also playing for the Wildcats, Hunter Reynolds and Tyler Ahart each shot 83 while Dallas Ahart had a 95.
