Todd County Central remained hot as they head into the postseason next week. On Thursday, the Rebels scored a goal in each half to beat Christian County 2-0 at the Stadium of Champions.

Ivan Lopez had the first-half goal, and Jose Villanueva scored off a corner kick in the 54th minute to provide an insurance tally.

Todd County Central has now won five of six games since an All A Classic region loss to Russellville on Sept. 11.

Each team had eight shots in the contest, but the Colonels’ run of bad luck continued with a pair of shots hitting the crossbar and a third just missing to the left on a breakaway.

For Christian County, it was its 14th loss on the field and 18th when four COVID forfeits are added in. The Colonels have lost nine of the 14 by two goals or less.

After the loss, Colonel Coach Arne Seeger told his team they are just inches away from breaking into the win column for the first time this season.

They will get a chance to repeat history Monday when they play University Heights in the district semifinals. Last year, a winless Colonel squad surprised Hopkinsville in the district tournament. They will look to do the same again this year.  The Colonels have dropped all three of its district matches by one goal this year.

As for Todd County Central, they improve to 5-8-2 and will play at Trigg County Saturday. On Tuesday, they will play at Russellville in the 13th District semifinals.
