Caldwell Advances to Silver Bracket But Finishes 2-4 at Quad State

The Caldwell County Lady Tiger volleyball team went 2-1 in pool play at the Quad State tournament in Paducah to advance to the Silver Bracket out of 28 teams in the field.

However, the Lady Tigers were 0-3 in Silver Bracket play to finish the event at the Paducah Convention Center 2-4. That puts Caldwell’s girls at 16-13 on the season.

The Lady Tigers opened the event Friday night by outlasting Owensboro 25-20, 19-25, 17-15.

Katie Menser recorded six kills, a block, four digs and an ace in that match while Brylee Butts had six kills and a block. Kynady Thomas has five kills and a block. Savannah Scott tallied four kills.

Adison Sullenger had 25 set assists to go with a kill, four digs and three aces. Mary Tays recorded a team-high 14 digs with two aces. Kyndra Winters added six digs. Lily Hoard had three kills and a block.

Caldwell then fell to Jefferson High from Missouri 25-8, 25-13.

Menser and Scott each had two kills in that contest. Sullenger tallied eight set assists and three digs. Tays had four digs and a kill.

The Lady Tigers bounced back to beat Mayfield 25-22, 25-21 Saturday morning to finish pool play.

Thomas’ six kills led Caldwell in that department. Scott had three kills and a block while Hoard and Butts also tallied three kills.

Sullenger had 21 set assists, six digs and two kills. Tays recorded six digs, two kills and four aces while Menser had two kills, a block, five digs and three aces. Maggy Griggs had seven digs. Claire Knoth added four digs and three aces.

That put Caldwell in the Silver Bracket with other teams that placed second in their respective pools.

Caldwell fell to Henderson County 25-14, 25-9.

Hoard had two kills in that one while Scott and Menser each had a kill and a block. Sullenger had five set assists and three digs while Tays had seven digs. Winters had five digs and two aces. Knoth added five digs.

The Lady Tigers dropped a 25-11, 25-21 decision to Paducah Tilghman in their next match.

Menser had a team-high five kills and two blocks. Hoard recorded four kills and two digs. Sullenger had 15 set assists. Tays tallied three kills and four digs while Scott had two kills. Knoth had four digs. Griggs had three digs and two aces.

Caldwell finished the day against Christian Fellowship School but lost 25-17, 25-16.

Scott tallied eight kills in that contest. Butts had four kills while Sullenger had 17 set assists plus three kills and four digs. Thomas had two kills. Tays recorded eight digs while Knoth had five digs. Winters added four digs and three aces.

The Lady Tigers will return home for a 7th District match on Tuesday against Madisonville-North Hopkins.
