The question going into the girls’ 8th District soccer tournament this week is can the UHA Lady Blazers keep their run going and make it six titles in a row. The girls’ 8th District soccer tournament gets underway Tuesday night at the Stadium of Champions. And while it would appear that Hopkinsville and University Heights would be favored to meet in the championship match, it would not be a big surprise to see either Christian County or Fort Campbell crash the title game “party.”

Tuesday night’s first semifinal match will have top-seeded Hopkinsville taking on the #4 seed Fort Campbell. The Lady Tigers won the regular-season matchup handily back on August 28 by the score of 11-1. Grasen Givens and Abby Moss each had four goals in the win. The Lady Falcons have had problems finding the net as of late, being shut out in their last two matches. But note, the Lady Falcons took down Todd Central 5-1 earlier this season, that being the same Todd County Central team that played UHA to a 1-1 draw late in the season.

The Hopkinsville-Fort Campbell match is set to get underway Tuesday evening at 5:30.

Tuesday night’s second semifinal will match up second-seeded UHA against #3 seed Christian County. The two teams did not have their regular-season match until September 30. The Lady Blazers, missing their top goal scorer for the season to date, Audrey Grise, came away with a 1-0 win. UHA senior Emma Perry scored the only goal in the match. The Lady Colonels had won three in a row before the regular-season finale with UHA.

The UHA-Christian County semifinal is scheduled for a 7:30 pm start Tuesday.

The girls’ 8th District championship match is set for Thursday evening at 6:30 at the Stadium of Champions.
