Lyon County’s girls continued their strong season with a 3-0 victory over Trigg County on Tuesday in the championship match of the 5th District tournament.

Leah Schroeder had a hat trick and Rose Smith picked up an assist as the Lady Lyons improved to 15-2-2 this season.

Lyon’s only losses have come to University Heights Academy and Madisonville-North Hopkins.

On Tuesday, the teams were scoreless until the 25th minute.

Schroeder scored on a free kick from about 25 yards out that eluded Trigg goalkeeper Sarah Sink and found its way into the net.

Schroeder struck again just before halftime, scoring in the 39th minute when she turned and pulled the trigger on a long shot. Schroeder’s blast found the net from about 30 yards out, giving Lyon a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Schroeder’s final goal came in the 61st minute when she scored from the right side to make it 3-0.

Conditions became wet and slick the last 20 minutes of the contest and Lyon accepted its district championship trophy in the rain afterward.

Maddie Russell earned the shutout in the Lyon net, making 13 saves in the match.

Lyon had beaten Trigg 2-1 and 5-0 in their regular-season matchups.

Both the Lady Lyons and the Lady Wildcats will play in the 2nd Region tournament next week in Madisonville.
