Caldwell Volleyball Falls to Graves in Regular-Season Finales

The Caldwell County volleyball team finished up its regular-season slate on Saturday — but dropped a pair of home matches against 1st Region foe Graves County.

Caldwell, the defending 2nd Region champion, will carry an 18-17 record into the 2021 postseason.

Graves (10-18) swept Caldwell in the first match 25-19, 25-20, 25-21.

The Lady Eagles then rallied in the second match for a 3-2 triumph — 18-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-22, 15-9.

Caldwell missed a chance to go up 2-0 in the late contest when it led 23-19 in the second set but saw Graves score the last six points to come back and tie the match 1-1.

In the first match, Caldwell got 14 kills and nine digs from Mary Tays while Savannah Scott had six kills and a block and Lily Hoard had six kills and three digs.

Adison Sullenger tallied 28 set assists along with five digs, two aces and a block. Katie Menser had a kill, two blocks and two aces.

Claire Knoth recorded 14 digs and two aces, Kyndra Winters had eight digs and Maggy Griggs had five digs.

In the second contest, Tays had 20 kills and 18 digs while Scott had 12 kills and three digs.

Sullenger totaled 46 set assists, a kill, 12 digs and five aces while Hoard had six kills and four digs.

Menser finished with five kills, four digs and two aces. Kynady Thomas had two kills and a block.

Caldwell also got 28 digs and two aces from Knoth, 15 digs from Winters and 10 digs from Griggs.

The Lady Tigers will next play Monday night in the 7th District tournament. Caldwell will face Hopkins County Central in a semifinal matchup at 6:00 at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School.

The Caldwell-Hopkins Central winner will advance to Tuesday’s 6:00 championship game against host Madisonville.
