Hoptown Finishes Runner-Up in Silver Medal Round at Smack Down (w/PHOTOS)

The regular season came to an end Friday and Saturday for the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers as they took part in the 2021 Toyota of Hopkinsville Western Kentucky Smack Down. The Lady Tigers would finish the weekend 2-3 and a second-place finish in the Silver Medal Round of the tournament.

Hopkinsville began the Smack Down taking on the Todd County Central Lady Rebels in pool play. Todd Central rolled to a 25-15 win in the opening set. The second set was more of the same as the Lady Rebels took another 25-15 win to complete the two-set sweep.

The Lady Tigers would even out their Friday night as they defeated McLean County in the second match of pool play.

Hopkinsville returned to action Saturday morning in their final match of pool play. The Lady Tigers took to the court against 8th District rival University Heights. UHA would handle the Lady Tigers for the fourth time this season.

With the pool play finished, Hoptown moved into the Silver Medal Round on their home court. Hopkinsville squared off against Trigg County in a semifinal match. Hopkinsville took the opening set 25-19, but then the Lady Wildcats returned the favor in the second set to even the match at one set each. Hoptown would take control early in the third set and take the set 15-8 to close out the match two sets to one.

The win moved the Lady Tigers into the championship match of the Silver Medal Round, where they would face crosstown rival Christian County. The Lady Colonels took the opening set in a tight battle, winning 25-23. Christian County would finish out the two-set sweep by winning the second set 25-19.

Hopkinsville will open 8th District play Tuesday evening at 6:30 when they take on Christian County at Colonel Gym.
