Lady Blazers 3rd in Gold Medal Round at Smack Down

The UHA volleyball team wrapped up the regular season at the Toyota of Hopkinsville Western Kentucky Smack Down over the weekend, finishing 3-2 to take 3rd place in the Gold Medal Round.

The Lady Blazers opened with a 2-0 win over McLean County, taking the first set 25-23 before rolling in the second 25-9 to pick up the program’s 200th win since starting play in 2010.

In their second match on Friday, the Lady Blazers were shut out by Todd County Central by scores of 18-25 and 17-25.

UHA opened play on Saturday with a victory over 8th-District foes Hopkinsville, the fourth time this season the Lady Blazers have topped the Lady Tigers without dropping a set.

The gold medal round began with an 0-2 loss to Sayre, with the Lady Blazers managing only 13 points in the first set and 17 in the second.

In the consolation match, UHA rolled to a 25-11 victory in the first set against Crittenden County, before holding off the Lady Rockets 26-24 to finish off the win.

UHA heads to the postseason with a record of 18-13 and will enter the district tournament as the top seed against Fort Campbell on Tuesday at Christian County.
