Lady Rebels Fall to Sayre in Smack Down Gold Medal Title Match

The Todd County Central volleyball team didn’t drop a set over its first four matches of the Toyota of Hopkinsville Western Kentucky Smack Down over the weekend, before dropping the Gold Medal title match to Sayre on Saturday at Hopkinsville High School.

The Lady Rebels opened with a 2-0 victory over Hopkinsville, holding the Lady Tigers to only 15 points in both sets.

A victory over UHA followed, with the Lady Rebels taking the first set 25-18 and the second 25-17 to close out play on Friday.

Todd Central had no problem with McLean County on Saturday morning, outscoring the Lady Cougars 50-26 over two sets to top pool B and set up a semifinal matchup with Crittenden County.

The Lady Rockets didn’t pose much of a challenge, as the Lady Rebels ended the first set on a 15-3 run to claim a 25-13 victory and eased to an eight-point winning margin in the second.

However, Sayre would prove too much in the championship match.  The Lady Spartans finished unbeaten on the weekend and never dropped a set, improving to 26-8 overall.

The Lady Rebels dropped the first set 19-25 to the Lady Spartans and fell in the second 15-25 to finish runners-up.

Todd Central opens 13th-District tournament play on Monday against Franklin-Simpson.
