She’s yet to play her first high school game as a freshman, but Bardstown’s Leah Macy was a guest of Kentucky women’s basketball at Big Blue Madness Friday.

“I had a lot of fun,” Macy said. “Not growing up a UK fan (she was a Louisville fan), it was my first real experience with it (Madness). I was impressed with the crowd and how many people came.”

Kentucky had a number of recruits at Madness but the only two players in the 2025 recruiting class were Macy and Zakiyah Johnson, a freshman wing from Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville. They both have UK offers and both are on the ESPN 2025 HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings Watch List.

“Just being so young and just starting high school, it made me feel really special to be there. It was just an awesome time,” Macy said.

Bardstown freshman Leah Macy said she enjoyed her first time at Big Blue Madness.

She averaged 18.9 points and 12.7 rebounds — the state’s seventh-best total — last year as an eighth-grader at Elizabethtown before transferring to Bardstown.

The 6-2 Macy, a wing/power forward, has offers from Illinois, Oklahoma State, Arizona, Western Kentucky, Murray State, LSU, Georgia Tech, and Mississippi State along with UK.

She recently visited Louisville and that kept her from getting back in time to Louisville’s event to start the season. She’s not sure how many more visits she will make with her practice now started and games beginning soon.

“Maybe I can make some games for schools that are close,” she said.

Macy didn’t get a chance to cross paths with current UK players other than senior Blair Green after Madness ended.

Kentucky commit Cassidy Rowe, a senior, was at Madness along with Pikeville sophomore point guard Trinity Rowe, junior combo guard Abigail Holtman of Ryle, sophomore center Sarah Baker of Ryle, and sophomore point guard Shaelyn Steele of Russell.

Macy said the in-state players like to connect with each other but don’t go into great detail about recruiting.

“But I did enjoy getting to meet Cassidy and her parents. She’s a great player,” Macy said.
