Caldwell County made quick work of Hopkins County Central in the 7th District semifinals on Monday and will try for its 15th-straight district championship Tuesday against Madisonville-North Hopkins.
The Lady Tigers, now 19-17, never gave Hopkins Central (9-16) a chance to gain much momentum in the lone semifinal contest in the three-team district.
Caldwell, the defending 2nd Region champion, dispatched the Lady Storm in straight sets, prevailing 25-11, 25-6, 25-10, in a match that took less than an hour to complete.
Hopkins Central actually jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second set before Caldwell took 24 of the next 27 points.
The Lady Tigers have now won 20-straight matches against the Lady Storm, including three 3-0 decisions this year.
Caldwell has taken 43 of 44 meetings all-time with Hopkins Central.
Mary Tays recorded seven kills, five aces and four digs to help lead the way on Monday while Savannah Scott had five kills, a block and two digs.
Adison Sullenger totaled 20 set assists along with six digs and an ace. Lily Hoard had four kills and two digs.
Katie Menser added three kills, a block, two aces and a dig while Kynady Thomas had two kills and a block.
Claire Knoth had seven digs and an ace. Maggy Griggs had three aces and a dig while Kyndra Winters had two digs.
Caldwell and Madisonville (19-8) will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the district final.
The teams split their regular-season contests, both by 3-0 scores. Madisonville’s win in Princeton on Oct. 5 was its first over Caldwell since 2006. The Lady Tigers had won 35 straight against the Lady Maroons. Caldwell still leads the all-time series 37-6.
Both Caldwell and Madisonville have already earned berths in the 2nd Region tournament next week. However, the winner Tuesday will host a first-round matchup in the regional tourney.
After opening-round matches at district winners, the regional semifinals and championship will be played at Crittenden County.
