Chick-fil-A ‘Triple-A’ – Hopkinsville’s Abby Moss

The exploits of Hopkinsville High School’s Abby Moss are well documented on the field and on the courts. Moss has been the leading scorer on the Lady Tigers’ soccer team for the past two seasons. She has also been among the best female tennis players in the region during that same time frame. She plays both with a toughness that elevates her past most of her competitors.

While she is among the best athletes in the area, there is much more to this young lady, both in and out of the classroom. This week’s Chick-fil-A “Triple A” spotlights Hoptown’s Abby Moss.

Abby is a standout as it pertains to the area of academics. She is a dual credit/Advanced Placement student at Hopkinsville High School. Abby has been recognized as an Outstanding Biomedical Scholar at Gateway Academy in both the 2019-2020 school year and the 2020-2021 school year. She also passed her biotechnology certification.

She was recognized as the Outstanding Biomedial Scholar in her Human Body and Systems and Medical Intervention classes.

Abby is a STARS student at Hopkinsville. The STARS program, Students Reaching for Success, recognizes students for their efforts and high achievements.

Abby was a participant in the Kentucky Governor’s Scholar Program at Morehead State University in 2021. The Governor’s Scholars Program strives to enhance Kentucky’s next generation of civic and economic leaders. Established in 1983, the program provides academic and personal growth through the balance of a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience. Students must complete an application and compete with others from across the state. Those selected attend the program free of charge.

Abby has been a three time participant in the Kentucky Youth Assembly program. KYA is an expanded, educational opportunity in which students serve as part of a model state government. KYA offers students the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of issues, develop critical thinking skills, and articulate their beliefs while engaging constructively with their peers from around the Commonwealth.

In 2019, she served as Speaker of the Bluegrass House. During the 2020 session, her team worked during the session and had legislation that was signed into “law” by the Governor of KYA. And, during the 2021 session, she served as Supporting Officer of the Commonwealth House.

Abby is extensively involved in her school community. She is currently serving as Executive President of the Hopkinsville High School student council. She is involved in Key Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, and FFA.

Her talents also expand into the world of music. Abby has taken piano lessons for ten years. She even serves as a substitute pianist on occasion at First Christian Church where she attends.

Abby also works as a counselor at the Circle T Ranch Horse Camp, in Cerulean. Abby says she attended the camp every summer growing up and once she was old enough, she became a camp counselor. She noted that she loves to spend her time outdoors “working with kids and horses.” Abby points out that the experience has built her work ethic and sense of responsibility.

As for her future, Abby states she is not sure where she wants to go to college, but she plans to study biology and pre-med.

A true standout athlete and more, that is Hopkinsville High School’s Abby Moss, this week’s Chick-fil-A “Triple A.”
